Tadhg Quinn wins Robbie Whelan 6K Race 3
Race 3 in the Robbie Whelan 6K series took place this evening with 124 hardy souls braving the elements. Tadhg Quinn set a strong pace from the beginning and came home a convincing winner in a time of 21:38. A very good time especially when taking the strong headwind on the second half of the course into consideration. Over the past three weeks it has been brilliant to see some of our younger runners taking race wins and it augurs well for the future of the club.
The top three men were Tadhg Quinn, Cormac Healy and Nigel O’Flaherty.
For the third week in a row the top three women came home in the same order with very little to separate them; Angela McCann, Elaine Horgan and Suzanne Shine. A brilliant display of consistent running.
People are well and truly getting to grips with their pacing now after three weeks running the course. Despite the conditions we had no less than 28 runners within 10 seconds or less of their prediction. Marina Quinlan and David Kennedy were the pick of the bunch with both running exactly as predicted.
This was the last race in the team competition and the team tables are below. The division winner is highlighted as well as the team and time that was the lowest on an individual week, excluding division winner. We had some close battles with the Blue division having two teams with the same lowest score. The next lowest score for these two teams was used as the tie break.
In the Green Division the team Working Well Together Lads were the winners with Ar nós na gaoithe the best team on the 3rd night. The Niall McCarthy Car Sales team won the Blue Division with Porcelanosa the best team in the 3rd race. The winners of the Orange Division were the Clogheen Striders with Team Bulmers 2 the best team, lowest score, in the 3rd race in that Division. Just One More Step were the winners of the Red Division while the best team in the 3rd race in that Division were the Scrambled Legs team.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the series to date is the consistency runners have shown in turning out each week with 136, 125 and 124 finishers over the past three weeks. Tonight’s turnout was particularly impressive given the conditions so well done and thanks to all for making this a great series.
Next weeks race does not require predictions and so you can wear your watch. There will be spot prizes based on finishing positions. We would also encourage everyone to join us in the greyhound stadium bar (entrance in car park) immediately after the race where we will present the prizes. Complimentary tea/coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
